How much does the swim team cost? Does this include the cost of the trophy?

First, you must be a member of the River Rock Swim Club to be a part of the Silverton Sharks Swim Team. The annual dues for the swim club varies from $335 for an individual to $450 for a family. How old does your child need to be to join the swim team?  Are there any other requirements? What if my child is learning how to swim?

Your child must be 18 years or younger. If they are in the "six years old and under" division, they must be able to swim at least a half lap. If they are seven years or older, they must be able to swim a complete lap.  In the issue of safety, we cannot make exceptions to this rule. Every child must be able to safely swim the required distance for their age group before being allowed to join the swim team. If you aren't sure about your child's swimming abilities, just ask the coaches.

The age brackets that the children swim in are:

  • Six and under...
  • 7 & 8 yr old
  • 9 & 10 yr old
  • 11 & 12 yr old
  • 13 & 14 yr old
  • 15 -18 yr old

Meet Our Coaches for 2009

Our coaches are Nick Trueman, Taryn Heilman, and Annah Riedel. You can learn more about our coaches below. You can also contact our coaches individually (see below) or as a group at .

Nick Trueman

Hello Silverton Swim Team! My name is Nick Trueman and I am extremely excited to be the Head Coach of the Sharks this year! I am currently a fourth grade teacher at Fuller Elementary where I have been teaching for five years. I love my job and the excitement and joy it brings everyday. I am currently on my school’s Leadership Team, School Improvement Team and I run the Data Team. In the mornings, I tutor four students in math and then run a mentoring program after school on Wednesdays. I currently live in Holly Springs with my wife, Katie, and our new addition, (future shark) Jack Thomas, who was born in December. I cannot tell you how excited I am to be the new coach of the Silverton Swim Team. Swimming has always been a major part of my life. I grew up with a pool in my backyard and quickly joined the local swim team at the age of five. I continued swimming year round through high school. After moving to Raleigh, I started swimming on my own at the local gym before joining the Raleigh Masters swimming program. They had meets monthly throughout North Carolina. It was in the next season that I found my true passion, triathlons. Triathlons have been a great reason to continue swimming and to travel across the state. I hope you are as excited about this summer as I am. I look forward to having efficient, challenging and fun practices and victories on Tuesday nights! You can reach Nick at .

Taryn Heilman

Hello Silverton Swim Team! My name is Taryn Heilman and I am extremely excited to be the Assistant Head Coach of the Sharks this year! I grew up just around the corner in the Weatherstone neighborhood. At age 8, I started swimming summer league for Weatherstone. I also swam 10 years with YOTA and for Green Hope High School until I graduated in 2004. I attended UNC between 2004 and 2008 spending my summers as a lifeguard, swim instructor and pool manager at Abbington and Meadowmont. During the winters, I enjoyed club swimming, life guarding for UNC, assistant coaching for the Tar Heel Aquatic Team in Durham, and being a very loyal Carolina basketball fan. My favorite stroke is backstroke, and my favorite swim meet events are relays. My career plan is to become a high school math teacher. I'm currently working as a research assistant for the UNC Autism Center. In my spare time, I tutor math and take graduate classes for my teaching license. I hope to begin teaching in the fall. I love running, college basketball, summer weather and of course swimming! You can contact Taryn at .

Annah Riedel

Hello Silverton Swim Team! I'm looking forward to another season with the Sharks. This year I will be a Junior Assistant Coach. For those that don't know me, I'm a rising Senior atPanther Creek High School, where I have gone all four years of high school. I'm very athletic and participate in a sport each season of the year. The three that I have participated in are cross country, swimming, and track & field. This year I was junior captain of the swim team and took pride in our great season (only 1 loss!) I was also chaplain of Leader's Club at the Cary Family YMCA and have been a member of YOTA for 10 years. I've grown up being a part of the Silverton Swim team. I started when I was four, and still swim. Last summer, I was an assistant coach for Silverton, and had a great time getting to know the kids. Every summer I attend a camp called Blue Ridge Leader's School, where I learn how to better work with kids, and where I have also received license to teach swimming to younger children. My goals for the summer are to have fun and to hopefully win a few meets. My hobbies are working on the yearbook at my school, volunteering, swimming, and I really enjoy being with friends. You can contact Annah at .
